La Sirena Oceano

Author:

IPCPR 2014 marks the first year that La Sirena Cigars are on their own, separated from Miami Cigar Company. Arielle purchased the distribution rights from Miami Cigar Company and continues to manage the brand. This also marks the launch of Oceano which was created with the help of Erik Espinosa’s La Zona Cigars S.A., via the Quesada Factory in the Dominican Republic. This has allowed their owner Arielle to fully realize her passion of cigars and have complete control over the brands production. I had the chance to speak with her about the state of the industry and La Sirena’s part in it. They are focused on producing high quality flavor packed cigars that are in my opinion some of the best I have smoked. I was very impressed with the lineup and had the chance to review the Oceano cigar, reviewed below.

Drew Estate IPCPR 2014 Preview

Author:

I am super Excited for Drew Estate’s lineup this year at IPCPR 2014. We get more of the KFC line, which to me are a prime example of Drew Estate making bad ass cigars. We will also see an update to the Bait Fish line as well. Below is what we can look forward to seeing.

Kentucky Fire Cured Sizes, “Delfinas”, “Kyotos”, & “Hamhock”:

The Kentucky Fire Cured line is being expanded by three sizes: the Delfinas (6 x 26), the Kyotos (5 ½ x 34), and the Hamhock (3 ¾ x 56). All three sizes are based on the original KFCC blend, which features smoked tobaccos as well as dark air cured tobaccos.

Herrera Estelí Norteño:

The “Norteño” showcases extensively aged tobaccos from the Estelí and Jalapa growing regions of Nicaragua, coupled with a spicy Honduran binder and a rich, bold Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper. The “Norteño by Willy Herrera” will be available in six vitolas (click here) at select Herrera Estelí retailers nationwide.

MUWAT Nightcrawler:

A 4 ½ x 50 “Short Robusto” based on the stronger Bait Fish blend. Drew Estate’s customers asked for it, and we’ve delivered – A bigger Bait Fish size. The MUWAT line will also debut a new packaging style at the IPCPR tradeshow.

IPCPR 2013 Review

Author:
DE KFC

I didn’t get a chance to head to IPCPR 2013 as I am new to the cigar news and reviews industry, I just did not have time to get a trip together. But I did follow my twitter feed and other blogs feverishly looking for the new cigars that I would be reviewing in the coming months. I have highlighted some of the upcoming releases that I am excited about and hope to be reviewing once released.

Drew Estate– Oh how great the future looks for Drew Estate. They are coming out with some fantastic additions this year. Along with a redesigned site, they are teaming up with Joya de Nicaragua again and continuing the MUWAT line with KFC (Kentucky Fire Cured). These are going to be amazing as they are fire cured with hickory, oak, and maple. It will come in 3 sizes. There is also the Nica Rustica “El Brujito” which looks to be a great robust smoke as well.

DE KFC

My Father Cigars– Reaching their 10th year in the cigar industry, My Father Cigars is producing the Don Pepín Garcia 10th Anniversary. This is only available as a 6.5 x 52 Vitola and is a limited release of 2500 boxes. Expected single cigar prices are $22, which is a bit high, but im guessing this will be well worth it. After winning cigar of the year honors, I am sure that this will be a highly sought after stogie.

La Palina– Besides the goldie No.2 and No.5 which I still need to try, the upcoming Mr. Sam should be a hit as well. This is a limited production run of 850 boxes in a Robusto 4.75 x 54 Vitola. Expect this to come into stores and leave very fast as La Palina Cigars  is a really hot cigar company right now.

LP MrSam

La Flor Dominicana– This is a company that I have heard a ton about but haven’t had the chance to try yet. Besides their previous releases I will be on the lookout for the new release Chapter One. Limited to 10,000 boxes of a 6.5 x 58 box press vitola. Should be a great smoke based off of early reports on it.

LFD Chapter 1

Nomad– Owner Fred Rewey took a trip to Nicaragua and came back with the Estelí Lot 1386 and is super excited about it. So I am going to be excited about it to. Per the Nomad website “Very limited run that can not be repeated.” I will for sure be hunting this one down.

J Fuego– The Connoisseur is the new cigar for J Fuego this year. I have already had and reviewed this and it was great. But they are releasing new Origen vitolas which I would like to get my hands on.

Oliva– There is only one new release and its the Serie V Melanio Maduro. Ive had the Melanio and loved it. So I am really excited for the Maduro which comes in a Torpedo Vitola and I know will be super tasty.

Crowned Heads– I recently smoked the Headley Grange and absolutely loved it. So I am beyond stoked about the upcoming release of J.D. Howard Reserve. It will come in 5 sizes and should be a very good smoke. This cigar will also be included in a sampler pack called a 6 shooter. It will contain 2 Four Kicks, 2 Headley Grange, and 2 J.D. Howard Reserve. This looks to be the way to go, at $49 MSRP your getting a hell of a great deal.

GurkhaGurkha came out swinging this year. They normally have a lot of releases throughout the year but they have some great updates this IPCPR. First is the Cellar Reserve Limitada, which a bit of a different blend but expect it to be just as great. Prize Fighter which is going to be a $2 cigar, I repeat A $2 GURKHA, holy hell that’s cheap and I know it will be above good for sure.
