La Palina Babe Family Series

La Palina is the resurgent award  winning brand that is brought to us by the mastermind Bill Paley. Bill’s quest for the extraordinary took him to Avelino Lara, the expatriate Cuban Master Blender who created the famed Cohibas for Fidel Castro. Bill worked directly with Lara to create a cigar that appealed to his discriminating palate. Even after his death, the quality remains and we are given a cigar line that is pushing premium cigars to a new level.

The wrapper is a gorgeous creamy brown and smells amazing. It has a sweet musk that just pulls you in. The band is pure elegance, gold foil borders that provide a frame for a picture of a lady. I get a sweet peppery flavor from the cold draw.

First puffs– Straight away there is a deep hit of pepper. Following are touches of toast and cedar. The draw is pretty much flawless, producing a near perfect burn and mounds of smoke.

First third– Pepper notes weave in and out and a creamy caramel flavor has entered. The draw is so smooth and is really easy. The burn is really consistent.
Second third– I get lingering tastes of the ligero that really is meshing nicely with the creamy sweetness that fills this section. The draw has tightened a bit but still is producing a fair amount of smoke.

Final third– A full on flavor explosion. It’s hard to put the cigar down. Creamy caramel with a toasty finish. Then a lingering spice from the ligero, it’s just perfect. It is still drawing nicely a producing a lot of smoke. Still very smooth.

Overall an amazingly flavorful cigar that really surprised me. At $18 you go into that cigar with really high hopes and sometimes are let down. This is not the case. La Palina delivers a superb bang for this buck. The Ligero really shines through and shows that they have used the best available  premium tobacco leaves. A creamy smooth flavor bomb that deserves to be savored. I highly suggest that you track down the family series and invest in a cigar that is sure to return on the investment.
