The La Aurora 100 Anos (100 years) pays tribute to La Aurora’s time in the business. In 2004, it was rated the 3rd best cigar for that year by Cigar Aficionado Magazine.
Picked up this little gem today, the La Aurora 100 Anos. I had heard of this cigar from friends but had been unable to find it for a long time. My local cigar shop just got a new shipment and I had to have it. At first glance this is a beautiful cigar. The oily Dominican wrapper has a sweet smell and looks amazing. The band on this cigar is a fantastic show stopper. You can tell right away that this cigar had a lot of time put into its design. It has raised graphics and really sets this cigar up nicely.
First puffs– Medium strength with a great woodsy finish on my palette. Not over powering my senses. I get hints of caramel sweetness and cedar. I am drinking a Stella Artois with this cigar, this may not be the best pairing, but it’s a damn good beer.
First third– The draw is near perfect, just the right pull from each puff. After the initial draws the flavors have become more of a earthy cedar wood and are becoming more complex. I get almost halfway before my first ash, the construction is superb.
Second third– as soon as I hit the halfway point I am greeted by a kick of spice which is very nice, not harsh. As I let it sit on my palette now it’s a nice mix of spice and the cedar remains constant.
Final third– still a nice mix of spice and cedar, almost a bit sweet now when it sits in my mouth. Honestly I get a taste like nuttiness a pistachio almost, very tasty. Not sure if that’s supposed to be in there but at this point I am very happy with the cigar. The finish is just as expected, smooth till the last puff.
Overall a very tasty cigar that lived up to the praise from friends and other online reviews. This was actually my first La Aurora cigar and I couldn’t have been more pleased. Looking forward to adding more to my humidor very very soon.
