Emilio Cigars Carpe Noctem

Author:

I was able to meet with Gary at IPCPR2014 and he introduced me to his newest cigar, which was more than 2yrs in the making. Available in 3 sizes (Robusto, Toro, and 60) and produced in the A.J. Fernandez facilities. This wrapper is a deep dark brown broadleaf. The scent of sweet tobacco and espresso emanate from the wrapper. A double band on this cigar. Foot has “Emilio Cigars” and the other band has “Carpe Noctem” (Latin for “Seize the Night”) across a Celtic cross with a night landscape. The cold draw has a nice spicy cayenne kick mixed with cocoa.

Emilio Cigars Carpe Noctem Smoked

First puffs– A rush of cayenne and black pepper combine to form a powerful kick to the palate. This is short lived and immediately followed by a creamy espresso and cocoa mix that is soothing and calm. The draw is incredible and smoke is pouring out of this cigar now.
First third– Don’t let the wrappers darkness fool you, this a creamy enjoyable smoke. The espresso, cocoa, and pepper are melding together perfectly. I get notes of cashew and earth as well. Draw has settled nicely and the burn lines are solid.
Second third– A pungent citrus and earth come through the transition. Cedar and cocoa are following behind. The strength picks up, bringing that spicy pepper back in.

Emilio Cigars Carpe Noctem Smoked Final

Final third– Spices continue to be the main flavor to start this final third of the cigar. Caramel and espresso flavors are mixing in nicely and giving it a fantastic creamy texture. The draw continues to be solid with ample smoke production.

Overall a roller coaster of rich cocoa and espresso mixed with deep spices. I really enjoyed the experience that the Carpe Noctem produced and would suggest this for a more seasoned smoker who enjoys a more medium to full cigar with heavy spice notes. Gary and Emilio Cigars has a real winner with this cigar and if you find one at your local B&M, pick a few up for sure, you will love them.
