Crowned Heads Las Calaveras 2015

Crowned Heads Las Calaveras 2015

After a hugely popular release in 2014, Crowned Heads is back with this years edition of Las Calaveras. They have introduced a new size to the line this year as well, a corona gorda (5 5/8 x 46). They also tweaked the band design a little bit as well while still maintaining the overall theme of the line of cigars.

The wrappers sweet cinnamon and cocoa scent is totally intoxicating. Not to mention a beautiful light brown wrapper and a stylish band to match. This utilizes the same designed band from last year, just with a new color scheme which happens to look better. The cold draw has notes of apricot and sweet tobacco.

First puffs– A strong rush of cinnamon, cayenne, and white pepper. A great combination that hits on the tip of the tongue then smooths out toward the back. The draw was a tad tight making it tough to smoke at first.

First third– The draw has opened up and the flavors are pouring through. The pepper still hits pretty good, accompanied by a strong dry coffee flavor. There are some earthy undertones as well, faint though. The burn Line is a little bit off.

Second third– The team up with My Father Cigars is very apparent as the pepper and spices are prominent and still hold on fairly strong. Touches of cocoa and coffee are there to soften and add character, which they do very well. I also get a taste of apricots which add a nice sweetness. The draw is easy and the cigar is now burning nicely.

Final third– The spice has picked up to a full during the transition. The deep coffee flavor is at the front as well. The overall flavor had a much more traditional tobacco feel to it, with a few touches of creamy chocolate. Still a smooth easy smoking cigar that is burning fairly well now.

(Classic spice and coffee notes stand out. A very full flavored cigar with some construction problems during the smoke. Uneven burn lines.)

Overall a great smoking cigar again, just further proving that the Crowned Heads are on top of their game and really get what today’s cigar smokers are wanting. A classic mix of pepper, spices, and coffee really make for a nice flavor profile. I would definitely buy more since this is a limited release and you will surely be wanting to smoke more than one.
